Ask Siggy is a question and answer site managed by an interdisciplinary group of therapists. Choose a response from the list. What do you think of the professional's advice? Would you propose anything different? What orientation do you think the professional follows? How does this affect the advice they give? (Be sure to identify the question on which you are commenting in the discussion group).

In response to the question and answer "Grief, Loosing a Parent" I think the information was probably the best that could really be given on a question and answer system such as this. "Siggy helps to normalize the person's grief by stating that most people grieve for 3-5 months when someone dies. This knowledge could possibly be harmful to someone who grieves longer because it could lead them to feel as if they are abnormal.

The professional seems to follow a psychodynamic approach. He enforces that the dreams are a symptom that the person is feeling emotional distress and tells the questioner to pay attention to these. The psychodynamic approach concentrates on the subconscious and dreams are a way of expressing the subconscious
