Social Influences on Behaviour: Sites to Visit

A Street Guide to Gang Identity - Check this one out but your don't need to discuss it

This site was developed by Dr. Janet Hethorn, a researcher from the Department of Environmental Design at the University of California Davis. Go there
Select one of the visual factors that denote gang identity. How might the adoption of gang symbols affect an individual's behaviour? In what other types of organizations might we see similar effects of deindividuation? Discuss a recent high-profile incident involving Canadians that illustrates this phenomenon. Discussion

Prisoner's Dilemma

Complete this Psychology in Focus module that accompanies Gray. Go there
Social psychologists use social-dilemma games like the Prisoner's Dilemma to study cooperation in the lab.  Reflect on how you completed the first game.  Did you play the game like you would behave in real-life cooperative situations?  Do you think research based on this laboratory game can be generalized to real life?  Why or why not? Discussion

Some other interesting sites you may want to check out...

Baby Think It OverGo there
Increasingly, technology is being used to influence people's behaviour. This site describes the Baby Think It Over educational program aimed at teenage attitudes about pregnancy and parenthood. Teens can buy a simulated infant, even a crack-addicted baby, to "try out" parenthood.

Milgram ExperimentsGo there
This site has a sound file from a video of the Milgram experiments described in your text. It also has some resources for more information on these experiments. The introductory text is a bit superficial, but the sound bites are interesting and the other resources are rich with examples of obedience.
