Agoraphobia Screening Test

intro.psych (Psyco 105) Discussion: Group 3 Discussion Group: Abnormal Psychology: Sites to Visit: Agoraphobia Screening Test
By Patricia on Wednesday, October 14, 1998 - 03:20 pm:

Try this Agoraphobia test from Internet Mental Health.
If you didn't get very far in the questionnaire, try taking it again, responding as you think a person with panic disorder might respond (this will allow you to view all the questions). These items follow the DSM-IV criteria for diagnosis of panic disorder. What do you think about the DSM category "panic disorder"? Is this a useful classification? See page 620 of Gray for more information on panic disorder.

Yes, I think that the diagnosis for panic disorder is useful in that it describes an experience of unprovoked fear at unexpected times. It is interesting that this disorder sometimes leads to agoraphobia. I don't know what else to say...

I once again have a personal example. One of my former teammates has panic attacks. I have only witnessed minor ones. But the severe ones sound awful. I think these disorders are very diifficult because they are so difficult to understand. YOu don't know what causes them. my friend knows when they usually occur, under stress, small spaces but she cannot explain why she reacts the way she does. She is on medication but tried to off of it last year because of the side affects( drowsiness, low concentration level). But then she would panic more because she would worry about the attacks being more frequent stronger. Similar to what we talked about on the previous website.
That's all for now.
