Birth Control

intro.psych (Psyco 105) Discussion: Group 3 Discussion Group: Social Development: Sites to Visit: Birth Control

This birth control module was developed by the University of Alberta Health Services. Unprotected sex is common among high school and university students. Why? Is there information in this software that might convince you to use birth control? Given what you know about logical inevitability, what additional information or other approach might convince adolescents to use birth control? Young adults?

Unprotected sex is common among high school and university students probably because they look to their peers, rather than adults, for information regarding sex and birth control. In my experience, there is not a lot of information disseminated to these groups. Also, many birth control methods entail familiarity and comfort with your own body, something that may not be common among teens and young adults. (eg. you have to touch the penis to wear a condom, you have to insert your fingers inside the vagina to wear a diaphragm.)

What is logical inevitability???

Peer education would probably be the most successful approach to teaching teens and young adults about birth control.
