Kiersey Temperament Sorter

intro.psych (Psyco 105) Discussion: Group 2 Discussion Group: Personality: Sites to Visit: Kiersey Temperament Sorter

The Kiersey Temperament Sorter is a personality inventory which assesses "type". Is this a clinically based, a lab-based, or a psychometrically based measure (see page 565 of Gray)? What are the major differences among the three? If your scores counted for something that was important to you, how would you like to be
tested? What are the benefits and limitations of the method of measurement you would choose?

hmm...this teset seems to be more directed towards my personality, but I still think it has flaws. For example, I found that many of the questions repeated themselves (are you thick skinned or thin skinned? are you open to thoughts or stubborn?). This is obviously a psyhomentrically based measure, since its more a pencil-and-pen questionnaire than anything else. The researcher would have to have an idea of what type of person I am for it to be a cliniacally based theorie. This definetely couldn't be laboratory based ,since the researcher would have to go through lots of experimental means by determining learning, cognintion as well as social influences.
As for the results, everything seemed to be pretty even (introspective=observant), except for the last two, where I seemed to be more tender minded, and Probing (rather than tough minded and scheduled.)

I agree that it is a psychometrically based measure.
