Ladle Rat Rotten Hut is a phonetic re-telling of the classic fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood. This site is enhanced by sound capabilities available through the plug-in "RealAudio helper" which can be downloaded from the site. Even if you do not have sound capabilities on your computer or do not want to download the plug-in, you will still be able to do the exercises. Read this story out loud. If you have sound capabilities and are able to download the plug-in, you can also listen to the story.In spite of the fact that the words on the page are very different from the meanings intended by the words, can you understand the text by listening? What does this show us about the importance of intonation in language comprehension?

HAHAHA>..that was such a funny web site to visit!
I found it very hard to comprehend the story (esp. when I had to read the story AND listen to the voice), even though I"ve heard this story a hundred times when I was a kid. IT really makes you think how much our brains have to hear, or read (or both) something, then comprehend it, and make something logical out of it. In this instance, Its twice as hard, since the words your readin or hearing are actual english words, but our brains have to try and interpret real words, and still try to make the story make sence! Very confusing. I tried it a second time by just listening to it instead of reading it (by closing my eyes and trying to visualize the whole story from memory), and it helped a bit more, since I'm sure my brain didn't have to get confused by the words on the screen.

Daki, wasn't that neat how you could understand the emotions in the story when you just listened to it? I guess that's why people don't mind opera. Even tho they sing in a different language, the story line still comes thru in terms of emotions. Same with music - no words to many compositions but the emotional themes can be expressed through sound quality.

I agree that the emotions came through a bit., but I did it once and found it hard to look at the words at listen. It sounded like a cross b/n liitle red riding hood, a modernized version (w/ tchnical terms and eating grammer w/ ketchup) and complete nonsense. I'm going to try again with there are less other noises around to see what happens. One things for sure, looking at the words realy through you off, implying that reading is more easily processed than hearing (at lest for me)

Okay I tried again, but I got less out of it than the last time. I kept hearing the words the narrator was actually saying. Not the story of litle red riding hood.
