Gregor Mendel

Comments

Gregor Mendel was an Austrian monk (later abbot) in the mid to late nineteenth century. More importantly, Mendel's research led him to discover the laws of heredity that are now taught in any introductory genetics course. For this reason Mendel is often considered the "father of modern genetics". Oddly (or perhaps not so oddly) enough Mendel's work was completely ignored during his lifetime. It wasn't until years after his death that several scientists interested in genetics almost simulataneously re-discovered Mendel's work and gave him the posthumous recognition he was due.

MendelWeb is a web site that is has a multitude of interesting material related to Mendel and his work.
